Chapter one of first draft
It is early December as Lander West sits behind his massive chrome desk. Lander has been pacing about his Presidential Office for a

half an hour now he finally lowers himself into the seat. Lander is the President of United North which is the area commonly known prior to

2562 as the United States of America. Lander is becoming more and more irate for Storm Jones, his Presidential Aide, is late. Yet Storm is

forever late and would be for his own funeral. Lander takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly as the door to his office slides open.

Storm Jones enters the large office and he takes a seat across from Lander. Storm does not appear to be flustered or ashamed that he

is more than a half an hour late. Lander looks at the digital clock that is on the wall which says that it is five o’clock in the morning. Lander

states that Storm is late as usual. Storm does not have an excuse and all he states is that he fell back to sleep after Lander called him. What

Storm lacks is an apology and this irritates Lander to no end. Lander wonders if Storm is aware of what is unfolding down at the BioGenetics

Labs.

Storm shakes his head, “No I have no idea on what is happening. I basically jumped out of bed and came right here.”

Lander replies, “BioGenetics came under attack at three this morning and the Federal Police are still on scene.”

Storm wonders, “What’s the damage?”

Lander says, “There were seventy people killed and another thirty that are seriously wounded.”

Storm asks, “Is there any property damage?”

Lander replies, “Not a damn thing was destroyed. Only people were the targets.”

Storm inquires, “Do you know who is responsible for this vicious attack on the labs?”

Lander states, “Hell’s Gate sent me a generic message via the computer stating that if I do not release some of their members from the Federal Prison system then there will be another brutal attack and more people will die.”

Storm questions, “How much time did they give you?”

Landers states with authority, “I need you to go down to Calyx Hall at ten this morning to collect Alexis West and I want you to bring her here as soon as she steps through the Time Portal.”

Storm raises an eyebrow, “Lander you need the Federal Police not an Elite Time Jumper.”

Lander gazes at Storm, “I need both.”

Storm adjusts himself in his plush seat, “What is that supposed to mean?”

Lander takes his time explaining, “The Time Portal was illegally accessed an hour after the BioGenetics attack. The message stated it was a
man by the name of Jester Harold that went through time.”

Storm is shocked, “Do you know what year this Jester Harold jumped to?”

Lander simply says, “2050.”

Storm wonders, “Why that year?”

Lander shrugs, “It is as good as any other year.”

Storm questions, “Alexis is not going to be in until ten this morning, right?”

Lander says, “I really need her here as soon as possible.”

Storm replies, “Alexis is not going to be happy. This will be her ninth mission. You have been working her like a damn dog.”

Lander shrugs, “I really do not care if Alexis is happy or not. I needed her on these missions.”

Storm insists, “Alexis needs her down time. This down time is essential for Time Jumpers whether they are Basics or Elites. You are well
aware that the body will break down and decay if the Time Jumper does not receive the time off.”

Lander states, “I know all this but this is the last mission I am sending Alexis on a mission without her time off. I promised Nikole Russell down at the Federal Time Association that if she cleared Alexis for this mission that I would make sure that Alexis would get an entire week off.”

Storm is appalled, “You actually spoke to the Federal Time Association? You went over her head to get this freaking mission cleared? What the hell is the problem here?”

Lander says, “Alexis is the only one I can trust to accomplish this mission.”

Storm reminds Lander, “You have other Time Jumpers.”

Lander states, “But I only have one Elite Time Jumper and this mission demands an Elite.”

Storm suggests, “Request another Elite Time Jumper from the Time Association. Alexis really cannot tolerate yet another mission right now and it is critical she receives her time off.”

Lander snaps, “Don’t you think I already tried that?”

Storm responds, “I don’t know about you sometimes Lander.”

Lander is getting frustrated with Storm as usual. Lander is aware of the pistol that is in the holster. Lander has been planning on

murdering Storm for several months at this point. Storm acts like he is entitled to the knowledge that Lander has just disclosed. Lander should

never have discussed any of this with Storm and if the Federal Government finds out he did than his career would be at risk.

Then there is this unhealthy attachment that Storm has for Alexis. After all Alexis IS Lander’s younger sister. Alexis has reported Storm to

Lander on many occasions. Alexis swears that Storm stalks her, harasses her, and is a little too hands on with her. Alexis has made

statements like Storm is creepy or that he is just really bothersome. Because of Alexis complaining so often Lander has had to take them

seriously unless Alexis would have gone to the Federal Government.

Lander has never really been kind to Alexis not even as kids. Lander has always thought of Alexis as a threat to him and neither of them feels

a special connection to each other. Lander has plotted a great many times to seriously wound Alexis but never succeeded. Alexis would go to

their parents when she was younger but over the years she toughened up and would stand against Lander.

Lander says, “I know that Alexis is my sister and I should care a little more but I really don’t.”

Storm inquires, “Then why the hell are you sending her?”

Lander says, “Because she is the best Elite Time Jumper that there is in this country or even on this planet.”

Storm replies, “Show some compassion here. A couple of days are not going to make that much difference.”

Lander has had enough and he fiddles with the pistol at his chest, “Alexis would never show me compassion so why should I display that emotion to her?”

Storm is carefully watching Lander, “Because you are the better person Lander, that’s why, and plus it would make you appear that you care about her well being.”

Lander warns Storm, “Look I know you have this massive crush or lust for my sister but she just does not have the same feelings for you
Storm. Am I gonna have to write you up again for inappropriate behavior?”

Storm reacts slightly, “Alexis is just playing hard to get is all. I know that she longs for my company.”

Lander removes the pistol from the holster at his chest. Lander then holds the gun in his lap for a few minutes. Storm knows that Lander

has been unstable since he had a nervous breakdown several years ago. Lander has never been completely steady to begin with but when

he had his breakdown it became more obvious that Lander was spiraling out of control. Storm knows that Lander is capable of murder for a

few years ago Lander killed a man in cold blood for this stranger’s girlfriend or whatever was flirting or something with Lander. In turn Lander

calmly walked out of the night club and the strange man followed him to finish what has been started. The man grabbed Lander by the upper

arm and was trying to force Lander to face him. Lander already had his pistol drawn and shot the poor guy in the abdomen. The man had

considerable internal injuries from the gun shot and he bled out right there on the scene. Lander claimed that the incident outside of the night

club was out of self defense and the Federal Government looked passed the episode just like they gave him a second chance to prove

himself after the whole breakdown.

Storm accepts that he just not walk out of this office with his life. Lander is an evil person with atrocious thoughts and actions. Storm

knows that Lander is not thinking clearly at the moment and will deal with the outcome of his actions after the fact. Storm tries to rise to his

feet and Lander stands as he orders Storm to stay where he is. Storm sees the wild look in Lander’s blue eyes. Storm knows that this is what

it is coming too but he does not completely think Lander will actually pull the trigger of the pistol that is aimed at his chest.

Storm bluffs, “You won’t shoot me Lander.”

Lander raises an eyebrow, “Oh really?”

Storm states, “You got away with murder once and the Federal Government will not let it happen again.”

Lander laughs wickedly, “It is self defense Storm or so this is what I am going to tell the Federal Government and the council. But in reality I have been planning killing you for several months now and this is the first opportunity that I have had.”

Storm begs, “Don’t do this Lander or you will regret it.”

Lander ignores Storm’s plea and fires the gun just once. The bullet strikes Storm in the center of his face. Storm’s head explodes in a

fire of blood and brain matter. Storm is clearly dead and for a moment his body remains upright before it collapses to the floor. Lander smiles

slightly as he states that Storm got what he deserved. Storm had been what he thought was secretive but in reality Lander knew each time

Storm had gone to the Federal Government’s council to report him. Storm would report Lander over the craziest things as well. Lander was

just sick of Storm and his sneaky ways.

Lander knows now that he must contact Cooper Thomas. Cooper is Lander’s personal Federal Police Officer. Lander has to contact him

about Storm’s apparent death and there is no way that Lander can get rid of the body at the moment. Lander pretends to be devastated that

Storm tried to attack him so when Cooper answers the phone sounding tired he does not realize that all this is just another one of Lander’s

deceptive lies. Cooper is ordering Lander not to disturb the scene for he is unnerved by all this. Cooper truly does not believe that this was

done out of self defense for Lander has always complained about Storm and that Storm was always attempting to get classified information

from Lander. So Cooper promises to be at the Presidential Offices within the half hour.
